Medical Gas Installer 6010 and Maintenance 6040 Certifications

In 1993 our apprentice committee (JATC) decided to get into the medical gas piping installer program that was being offered by the American Medical Gas Institute (AMGI) in New Orleans, LA. In 1994, we sent an instructor to AMGI for training and to become a certified instructor who would be able to teach others and prepare them for the test. By 2004 we had over 400 certified installers when the State of Ohio knocked on our door and asked how they could get certified to inspect medical gas piping systems. So we set up a class for both the State of Ohio and the City of Columbus plumbing inspectors. After the State inspectors became certified inspectors for medical gas systems, the State started to oversee all medical gas systems in Ohio, later the City of Columbus started to inspect systems in their jurisdiction.
