UA S.T.A.R. HVACR, Pipefitting, Plumbing Mastery Certifications


There is an increasing need for HVACR, Plumbing, and Pipefitting personnel to document their qualifications through written examination and/or practical testing. NITC’s (National Inspection-Testing-Certification-ISO 9001:2008 Certified) S.T.A.R. Mastery certification programs were designed for this purpose. The S.T.A.R. Mastery programs are nationally recognized. The exams were developed by experts in the industry assembled by The Technology Transfer Center at Ferris State University.

The S.T.A.R. Mastery exams are designed to test the knowledge of the experienced HVACR technician, Pipefitter, or Plumber. Test candidates must be able to provide 5 years documented work experience or provide documentation that they are in the 5th year of a HVACR, Pipefitting, or Plumbing training program.

The S.T.A.R. HVACR Mastery examination is a proctored, closed book exam that covers mechanical principles, electrical principles, controls, air conditioning and refrigeration, heating, steam systems, ventilation, piping, lifting equipment, safety and environmental, applied mathematics, and blueprint reading. Examinees must receive a minimum 80% in order to pass the exam.

The S.T.A.R. Pipefitting Mastery examination is a proctored, closed book exam that covers blueprint reading, hydronics, instrumentation/pneumatic controls, math, measurement, science, piping, tubing, pumps, refrigeration and air conditioning, rigging, steams systems, safety, and welding. Examinees must receive a minimum 82% in order to pass the exam.

The S.T.A.R. Plumbing Mastery examination is a proctored, closed book exam that covers blueprint reading, drainage waste systems, venting systems, gas, H2O supply and distribution, inspection, testing, math, measurement, piping, tubing, plumbing fixtures, pumps, related science, code, safety, and welding. Examinees must receive a minimum 80% in order to pass the exam.
